Bonny Zijlstra - Bonny Zijlstra (1945)

I am Bonny Zijlstra.
I have been painting since 1982. In that year, I began with a painting and drawing course for beginners at the OpenUniversity in Groningen, The Netherlands. Afterwards, I was for a while a pupil of Ton Dubbeldam (an artist in Groningen) and otherwise have been self-taught. My first works were almost exclusively still lifes, inspired by, among others, a number of northern realists (Henk Helmantel, Piet Sebes, en Rein Pol) and subsequently developed myself as figurative painter. You'll see a variety of subject matter mostly in oil and occasionally acryl.

Through the years, painting has become an indispensable pleasure for me. My subjects are very divers, but I have retained my preference for still lifes.

In 2006, I also started to sculpt and in 2011 I began experiments with digital photographing, examples of this can be also found on this site.

In 2012 I've got the 'Five Golden Stars Coronation Art Award' for excellent work. (which you can see on the photo)
